This week, the sermon will look to Psalm 15 and examine a crucial question: "Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?" The answer might surprise you. While the Old Testament imagined God confined to a tent or temple on a hill, Jesus flipped that picture upside down by descending from the hill to meet people right where they lived—especially those society pushed to the margins. When we recognize Christ's deep compassion and care for all creation, including us, how will we respond? After three weeks with the prophet Isaiah, we shift to the songs of King David, a man who knew both triumph and failure in his walk with God. David rose from shepherd boy to king, yet his story includes serious mistakes that remind us how easily we lose our way when we take our eyes off God's light. In Psalm 27, David declares a powerful truth that echoes through generations all the way to Jesus: "The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?" Being part of a church means coming together as a community. True community isn't about staying comfortable—it's about making room for others who need a place to belong, even when that challenges us. In this week's sermon, we'll look into our worshipping community. When we worship together, we must focus our hearts and minds on God and what it means to be "in community" with those around us in worship. The physical spaces give us a place to worship, but the building is temporary—it is our place in God's family that is eternal.

There is something that feels dishonest about preaching a passage about how everything is going right in life like Psalm 16. To many people have experiences that give them good reasons to not feel so positive. So, what do we do with passages like Psalm 16 when things are not okay? Perhaps this passage can serve as a reminder of God's character. God is not abusive. God means us no harm. We ought to look for God in the places where we find refuge from the harm and abuse that is often dealt to us.

This Sunday, we are going to hear Rev. Jerry Krueger talk about the trials, hardships, and turmoils in people's lives and how to overcome them. The theme is appropriate for this time of year in the recently completed election cycle.  

Amid sometimes overwhelming parts of our lives, even in hardship, confusion, turmoil, distress, fractured relationships, and fear, our foundational faith life provides for each of us who choose to follow Christ, Something Better Beneath all that may swirl around us.  The message is one of hope.
